Thayalan Kandiah BSc, BDS(Wales), MFDS(RCS Eng), M.Clin.Dent – Paediatric Dentistry (QMUL) MPaed Dent (RCS Eng) and Cert Dental Sedation and Pain Management (UCL)
Thayalan qualified from Cardiff Dental Hospital in 2000 and
undertook a year as a vocational trainee in West Wales.
Following this he completed Senior House Officer posts in Oral
& Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology
at University of Wales College of Medicine. He undertook
further Senior House Officer posts at Birmingham Childrens
Hospital, Bristol Dental Hospital as well as Community Dental
Officer posts in Newcastle Community Dental Service. During
this period he completed the MFDS examination for the Royal College
of Surgeons Of Edinburgh.
He sought specialisation in Paediatric Dentistry at Royal London
Dental Hospital and completed his Specialist Registrar training to
be awarded a Membership in Paediatric Dentistry (M Paed Dent) at
the Royal College of Surgeons, England and entered the specialist
list in Paediatric Dentistry in 2008. Also during his
specialist training he obtained his M.Clin.Dent in Paediatric
Dentistry.
In 2010 after further training in Paediatric Dentistry at
Eastman Dental Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital he was
awarded a Fellowship in Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal College
of Surgeons, Glasgow as well as Certificate in Dental Sedation and
Pain Management from UCL.
Currently he is a senior Specialist Registrar in Paediatric
Dentistry at Eastman Dental Hospital and Great Ormond Street
Hospital. His areas of specialist interest are oral surgery,
sedation, management of anxious children, dental anomalies and
dental trauma.
He is actively involved in postgraduate teaching and presenting
papers nationally and internationally in Paediatric Dentistry.
